The International Ceramics Museum in Faenza works since 40 years about the restoration of ceramic materials, of a group of qualified restorers.
Faenza is the ideal place for a complain for all that work of restoration and conservation of ceramic artifacts.
The study day is organized by the MIC in Faenza that represents an opportunity for thinking about a wide and multifaceted topic, which includes the study of materials and the analyses of the state of the artifact conservation, up to considered the operational aspects related to the restoration methods. Actually, is an important opportunity to meet the professional figures involved in the conservation of the ceramic heritage, in a historic moment of great value for the new training education courses and for the recognition of qualified restorers. The aims of this event is to provide a national framework of experiences and research, which focuses on the restoration of ceramics, also considering the innovative aspects in terms of new materials and methodologies.
The event also focuses on the training of the first restorers graduated in Academic and University course in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. It represents an opportunity to remark on educational and training systems and contents of the study paths of young restorers in this sector context.

Preliminary aspect to the restoration interventions is the study of the constituent materials of the cultural heritage and of the pathologies that compromise its conservation status. The help of laboratory investigations is fundamental for a correct planning of the interventions, because reference to the specific problems of restoration and the choices made on the materials and the methodologies. - Method and solutions for restoration
This session is dedicated to the presentation of restoration’s skills and discussion of operatives solutions for the specific phases of work (cleaning, consolidation, fragment assembly, integration of gaps and shortcomings), also by means of the critical comparison between different choices in temps of materials and methods of application adopted. - Research and innovation. New materials
The preservation problems of the cultural heritage represented a motivation for the research of new materials and methodologies. The use of innovative methods for conservation leads to an upgrade of the restoration methods, based on precise a check of the scientific results, which stimulates critical reflections on the treated cases.
